The teachers at Mod School are fantastic with kids. They work with them in a way that develops their skills, teaches them the value of practicing and increases their self confidence. My boy might not be the next Eric Clapton, but what he is learning at the school will help in school and life no matter what he chooses to do.

The instructors at Modern School of Music are wonderful! We have two sons learning the guitar and one son learning to play the drums and they all love it! We have tried other places but have been so impressed with Modern School of Music. They make learning to play an instrument fun!

My son has been taking guitar lessons from Mod School for 3 years. We have been impressed with the progress he has made. Dave has been really good to work with. My son just finished his 4th semester of RocK Band Class. Dave teaches the kids how to work together, as a band. They learn songs that the kids want to learn and then have a final performance. It was impressive to hear how amazing the bands were. We have had several other teachers but Mod School has been our favorite.

My son started with Modern School of Music last fall and loves it! He has had private lessons with Kyle who is terrific – talks his language, looks for songs that will appeal to him and pushes him a bit when he needs it. He has also had lessons with Dave and Braxton, who were both terrific as well. He tells me stories about Dave in the car on the way home and laughs the whole way. His skills have grown faster than I ever thought they would. And he loves it so he practices every morning on his own. I don’t even have to remind him anymore. He also played in Rock Band this last Spring. Working with other kids in the same age and skill level is a great way to develop team building skills and confidence. It was a great experience for him.

I had 2 children participate in the Mod School and they grew so much in skill and confidence. The teachers there really know their stuff and are excellent at encouraging the students. My kids have gone on to do many professional gigs and got accepted into college groups, as well. I like the variety of music that they teach, also. It was a great experience for our family!

I love Mod School! My son started drum lessons in 6th grade with the goal of getting into a Percussion Group in junior high. He made the group, auditioned for a snare part, landed 3rd snare as an 8th grader, and is playing drum set and snare in Symphonic Band as well, all of which has been extremely competitive. His teacher is awesome, and I give him credit for all the good things we hear back from the school band teacher about my son’s playing, including perfect timing and an amazing ability to read music and master it quickly. My son also participates in the Rock Band Class, and he loves it. I love that he gets the opportunity to explore different types of music. I love that he also sees himself as a multi-talented musician. He’s not just a drummer, but he can sing or play the keyboard or play the bass, etc. Watching other kids at the school play a variety of instruments gives him the desire and freedom to branch out and create music in whatever way he wants, and the kids love having Dave as an instructor. That’s obvious! Thanks Mod School. You ROCK!!!

The Modern School of Music has helped my children improve their musical abilities. The teachers are great! They really know their stuff, and are very good to work with my kids’ personalities. I like the rock band classes because it helps the kids learn how to work with others in a band. My kids have really loved performing in the rock bands and even had a good time working in a band together. That is really important to me because there are few things they like to do together. I also like the automatic payment process. It helps to simplify my life.

I am so grateful for the growth both of my granddaughters have made due the lesson and performance opportunities they’ve had through Mod School. My son loves the Rock Band program at Modern School of Music. He is in his 4th semester playing with his group and has made friends for life! He has had a lot of fun with the live performances and likes that the group gets to choose the music they play. His teacher has really become his mentor and has done a great job getting him to the next level. Thanks Mod School!

Words cannot express how wonderful the Mod School is. You always hear of people quitting lessons because they feel they’ve learned all there is to know, but with the Modern School of Music, there’s none of that; I have learned more music theory from Dave, the owner, than I have in my five years of being in concert bands and taking private lessons from fancy clarinet gurus with fancy musical degrees. Not only are their lesson plans solid, but the environment is very positive, and very welcoming.

I used to take guitar from your typical neighborhood guitar teacher… you know, that kid who teaches out of his basement? It used to frustrate me, considering only a few months in, I felt I had learned everything he could have to offer. So, I gave up. A few years later though, I started taking from Dave, the owner of the Modern School of Music, and wow! It was like a whole new world opened up! I have been taking from Dave for two and a half years now, I have never felt better about my music playing abilities, and I know he still has so much more to teach me. Anyone interested in actually learning music should consider the Modern School of Music.

The people who work at the Modern School of Music are so friendly and welcoming. The teachers love what they do, and they love teaching. Their classes are fun for kids (and those young at heart) and they are exciting and entertaining. Mod School is a wonderful environment to learn in, and the people there are the best. I love Mod School, and I would recommend it to anyone.

As a kid, I got to watch my brother learn guitar from Dave; I was always incredibly jealous. My brother used to take from another teacher, but he never felt like he was going anywhere until he switched over to the Mod School. Watching his improvement just there was insane. As for myself though, since taking from the Mod School, I have really found an extra passion for music. I have a pretty large musical background, but out of all the lessons I’ve ever taken, I’ve learned the most from Dave. All of that music theory he’s taught me has helped me rise above the other players in my concert band, and in other said music settings. That, and I’m pretty confident to say that the Mod School has helped me come out of my shell; after taking a few semesters of their rock classes, I can now comfortably perform in front of crowds without feeling the slightest bit of anxiety. Check them out! It’s worth it!

I love Mod School! I have taken piano lessons twice before (once as a child and once as an adult) and it never “stuck”. This method is a fun way to dive in to music you want to play. I am gearing up for my Rock Band class next….

I am a soldier in the Army National Guard, and this spring I was deployed to Afghanistan with a Forward Surgical Team. I had my guitar shipped over here as well as my music books and what not. Since then five guys in my unit have decided to take up guitar while they are here as well. They keep asking me which book they should buy, (they just ordered guitars), and I keep coming back to what I learned from the Mod School seven years ago. I have all of my chord shapes and transitions as well as my pentatonic positions engraved deeply in my mind because of the way it was illustrated and diagrammed in my Modern School book.

Dave, I would love to buy a couple copies of your book for me and my kids. I gave my bass method book that I got from the lessons I took from you to my youngest son a couple years ago. He now plays bass with a band in southern California called Fraternity Ward. I just found out through Facebook that his band is playing at the House of Blues next week. Our little band here in Utah county is in the process of recording some original songs with my step daughter, Aubrey, for which I am using what I learned from your lessons to come up with some bass parts. I’ll send you a copy of the cd when we are done. Your lessons and writing are great. I thought you might like to hear how some of your past writing and instruction is being put to use.
